CARD DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION
PROJECT PREMISE
Illustrate and design a collection of 26 flash cards that introduce children to the various forms of aquatic life.
TOOLS USED
Illustrations completed using Procreate, iPad, and Apple Pencil. Cards and box layouts were designed in Adobe InDesign.
SUMMARY
The goal of this project was to create flash cards that would be used by children to identify different marine animals which corresponded with the 26 letters of the alphabet.
I knew I wanted to include a mixed mix of popular and unfamiliar animals. The well-known animals like the Great White Shark, Lobster and Manatee are included for broader appeal. In contrast, the lesser know animals like the Xiphosura, Yellow Tang, and Plankton are included for variety. I opted to use illustration-based imagery to appeal to younger audiences.
The front of the card depicts an illustration of aquatic animal for the card, the name of the animal, and the pronunciation of the animal's name. The back of the card displays the animal's name, information about the animal, and the letter of the alphabet that the animal's name starts with.
