Marine Life: A to Z
CARD DESIGN // Personal Project
PROJECT PREMISE
Illustrate and design a collection of 26 flash cards that display each letter of the alphabet and are unified by a central theme. TOOLS USED The illustrations were created in Adobe Illustrator. The card and box designs were laid out in Adobe InDesign. SUMMARY The goal was to create flash cards that would be used by children from ages 7 - 9 to identify different marine animals that corresponded with the letters of the alphabet. Initially, I knew I wanted to include a mixed bag of animals that were both popular and unfamiliar by the general population. Well-known animals like the Great White Shark, Clownfish and Dolphin are included for broader appeal. In contrast, the lesser popularized animals like the Xiphosura, Unicornfish, and Zooplankton are included for variety. Once I settled on which animals to include, I began developing the cards. The cards were developed in 2 phases: type and image. Typographically, I chose fonts that represented the bubbly, fluidity of the sea, while the images reflected the childish charm of a cartoon. The cohesion between type and image was very important to me. |
