Paul Renner & Futura

BOOK DESIGN // RESEARCH PROJECT
PROJECT PREMISE
I conducted extensive research on Paul Renner, the creator of the typeface Futura. My research was in response to several different topics that needed to be discussed. The research provided the backbone for the book that would be designed later on. TOOLS USED The layout for the book was made in Adobe InDesign with all photographs having touch-ups made in Adobe Photoshop. SUMMARY My research sought to discuss the major events of Paul Renner's life which led him to create one of the most used typefaces in modern design. The spreads were designed to emulate any printed material that could be found in the 1930's. The colors used were also meant to emulate the early 20th century. The chapter headlines are offset from the subhead to create an intentional misuse of the grid. I decided make this decision in order to disrupt an otherwise simple page layout. The typefaces used for the book design were Mrs. Eaves, Futura, and Futura Condensed. |
